EXTRAS

Mobile Homes Available to Refurbish for Biloxi

Fifty Mobile homes that were at one time used by laborers and their families in the Bakersfield area were donated by the owner of the land they were on to the victims of the Hurricane in Biloxi. He was in the process of selling them when the disaster hit and he decided to give them to the victims instead.

Each of these homes needs to be refurbished at a cost of approximately $4,000.00. That is an average cost, some of these homes are worse off than others and some are in fairly good shape so the cost may move up or down depending on the condition. They will all be fitted with air conditioning & heating units and these units have already been donated.

The shipping of these homes to the disaster area is being handled through a Franklin Graham Disaster Relief Ministry. That means there is no cost to Rotary for shipping. This includes the setting up of these homes similar to that of a mobile home on skirts, but not the hook up of utilities. The destination is Biloxi, Mississippi.

HOW DOES ROTARY FIT IN ?

They need help in doing the refurbishing here and that’s the first place we as Rotarian can assist. They need CARPENTERS, ELECTRICIANS, PAINTERS, PLUMBERS, ETC., AND OF COURSE LABORERS TO DO THE GRUNT WORK. So if you have a business that would be willing to assist or you would like to do some hands on contact Dan Giordano, President of the Bakersfield East RC - 661-834-1065, dgiordano@bak.rr.com

Each home will include BLANKETS, BEDDING, CURTAINS, BLINDS, PILLOWS, CANNED FOOD, TOILET PAPER, CLOTH TOWELS, HOUSE CLEANER, DETERGENT, SOAP, TOOTH BRUCHES, TOOTHPASTE, HAIR BRUSHES, and anything else to make this a turn key deal.

Under the leadership of the Rotary Club of Bakersfield our district would be interested in leading a team to refurbish 15 homes. 15 x $4,000 = $60,000. Help is desperately needed, however, with financing this project as well as workers to do the refurbishing, both skilled and non-skilled. We are hoping that many clubs in the district will contribute to this project. Please make your checks out to Bakersfield East Rotary Foundation, to PO Box 2383, Bakersfield, California 93303. Earmark each check for the “Mobile Home Project.”  Earmark each check for the MOBILE HOME PROJECT.

Contacts are being made with Rotary clubs in Mississippi, not far from the Biloxi area (which was totally destroyed) to help with the utilities hook up of these homes.

Many have watched a nation come to the aide of a group of desperate people through monetary donation, items of clothing, food goods and water, but for the most part this has left them with a empty feeling, because the giving was to a faceless entity. Here, however, is a project that will be given directly to 15 families who have lost what little they had, and we can look forward to giving destitute families a key to their new home.

For any any questions, contact Dan Giordano, President of the Bakersfield East RC - 661-834-1065

Recently a "Husband Super Store" opened where women could go to choose a
husband from among many men. It was laid out over five floors, with the men
increasing in positive attributes as you ascended.

The only rule was, once you opened the door to any floor, you HAD to choose
a man from that floor; if you went up a floor, you couldn't go back down
except to leave the place, never to return.

A couple of girlfriends went to the shopping center to find some husbands.
First floor
The door had a sign saying, "These men have jobs and love kids." The women
read the sign and said, "Well, that's better than not having a job or not
loving kids, but I wonder what's further up?" So up they went.

Second floor
The sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, love kids, and are
extremely good looking." "Hmmm," said the ladies, "But, I wonder what's
further
up?"

Third floor
This sign read, "These men have high paying jobs, are extremely good
looking love kids and help with the housework." "Wow," said the women,
"Very tempting." But there was another floor, so further up they went. "

Fourth floor
This door had a sign saying "These men have high paying jobs, love kids,
are extremely good looking, help with the housework and have a strong
romantic streak." "Oh, mercy me," they cried, "Just think what must be
awaiting us further on! "

So up to the fifth floor they went.
Fifth floor
The sign on that door said, "This floor is empty and exists only to prove
that women are impossible to please. The exit is to your left, we
hope you fall down the stairs. "

MAYBE GOOGLE ISN'T GOOGLE
Panda Software reported that a worm creates a page that looks like
the Google search page. When you hunt for something, it returns a
page that looks just like Google's.

However, the first couple listings, which are supposed to be paid,
are fraudulent. Presumably, the author is being paid for the switch. Panda
calls the worm P2Load.A.

P2Load.A spreads via the peer-to-peer programs Shareaza and Imesh.
Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date, and you'll be OK
